CampBlood Homo Horror Features: So Readable They Hurt

Trapped (aka Doberman Patrol)   1973

James Brolin, Susan Clark, Earl Holliman
Yes it is true that James Brolin brings out the animal in all of us (ed: um, which animal, exactly?), so it’s not surprising that a six-pack of Dobermans would attempt to ravage his beautiful body when he’s accidentally locked in a department store with them overnight.

Sadly, this rawking premise never gets the royal treatment it deserves, even with Frank De Felitta (Dark Night of the Scarecrow) behind the wheel. I’m not sure what’s misplaced here, because so much of it should have worked. Maybe it’s James’ obnoxious kid who stares aimlessly into the ether, prodding her mother (Susan Clark) and her new beau (Earl Holliman, who, quite frankly, is the coolest thing since sliced bread) to push back their flight so she can kiss daddy goodbye (ooh la la). Or maybe it’s Clark’s obnoxious Andy Capp cap that keeps distracting me, but this muddled mess has a few OK moments, Earl Holliman playing the too-good-to-be-true boyfriend, and a pillaged Brolin, which just don’t fill up 74 minutes…

(ed: and don't miss the entire scenes that Susan Clark delivers with an object covering the lower half of her face -- a phone, a menu, a cup, even a child's head! Your kingdom for some Herpacin, eh Susie?)
