One of the best MOTWs ever, at least in my humble opinion, This House Possessed has it all. By having it all I obviously mean big hair, designer jeans, chicks in flowing nightgowns and a boiling hot swimming pool.

After a wacky opening, which gives new meaning to getting hosed off, a very large and terribly modern house seems to be spying on pop star Gary Stralhorn (Parker Stevenson) on one of its many monitors. Gary collapses on stage in the middle of his excellent hit song “Sensitive You’re Not” and is rushed to the hospital. While recuperating from debilitating headaches, he meets beautiful nurse Sheila (Lisa Eilbacher), who has no memories of her life before age seven. Gary hires her out privately and drags her to a remote mountainside town where he buys the voyeuristic house. Soon after, Sheila begins to have strange recollections and feels she may have been there before. When Gary’s old girlfriend Tanya (played with just the right amount of supermodel bitchiness by Shelly Smith) ‘schleps’ into town, the house becomes very protective of Nurse Sheila and retaliates by giving Tanya a shower that would make Carrie jealous. A strange homeless woman also shows up, insists on calling Sheila “Margaret,” and drops clues about the house being alive and in love with our young LPN. Of course, the old lady is inexplicably thrust into the above-referenced boiling pool. As Gary and Sheila begin to fall in love, they reprise their roles in The Hardy Boys and attempt to solve the mystery of the house and its past.

A baffling but enormously entertaining chiller, This House Possessed is the MOTW at its finest. Director William Wiard mixed supernatural elements with some very creative deaths and just enough silly but catchy pop songs to make this movie reminiscent of a subdued Mario Bava film with no budget (and I mean that as a compliment). Parker is also hot, hot, HOT! This House… captures him at his most beautiful. But straight-as-a-razor Gary uses the words “fabulous” and “sensational” so much you’ll soon figure out why it was so easy hide in the closet in the 80s! Very hard to find but well worth the search!
