Yes, in the olden days there were such things as “staging”, and “camera blocking”, wherein actors would “move” and the camera would “recompose” the frame to accommodate them and draw attention to certain “elements”. These days this concept is all but forgotten, as smash-cutting and 3-camera sitcoms have basically offered a more time-effective and far less interesting way of carrying things out.
